Armorial
During the 16th century when figurative glass was being destroyed in churches across the country stained glass work was increasingly restricted to heraldic commissions. Such armorial, or heraldic, stained glass doesn't interest me much but I quite like these early 17th century panels in the Knolly Memorial Chapel. The designs appear Flemish in style or influence. There are sometimes amusing or intriguing objects in the surrounding frame, in this case there appear to be some pears.
The shield itself is divided into two parts. I recognise the right hand side as being that of the Knollys. Presumably the left hand side (black and yellow geometric shapes) suggests a marriage.
