Dennis and I darted from the conference in mid-afternoon to avoid the second option of a midnight flight back to Dar es Salaam. As we departed we passed the Arusha Declaration Monument and the snow-covered peak of Kilimanjaro was visible as we neared Kilimanjaro airport.

In the evening I spoke to my sister and Georgia sweetly showed me a globe bauble which she was hanging on the Christmas tree. She also shared her received wisdom of the day: don’t panic, stay up late and shout bananas. During the rest of the evening I likely only achieved the middle one only.
