Rich white lady shopping
In a statement highly charged with sexism but which was pretty accurate on the frivolous standards of white expats, my friend Stephen asked whether I wanted to join him for some ‘rich white lady shopping.’ I was immediately sold. Turns out he wanted to buy some artisanal items for his apartment. We ended up here at the Tingatinga Cooperative in Dar es Salaam, which is an artists’ centre using a painting style coined in the 1960s in Tanzania, originally using bicycle paint on chipboard.
