Sustainability

In 1996 Harvey Nichols opened in Leeds it was their first branch outside London.
The very first winter sale was when l purchased my Max Mara coat. It seemed very expensive at the time £99 or £100 but as l’ve worn it every year for twenty eight years it has proved to be one of the best purchases l have ever made. It never dates and never wears out.
Had a bit of an accident with one of the front fasteners a few years ago and l couldn’t replace one of the popper fastenings. Nobody could come up with an idea on how to repair it.
So l bought some black velvet ribbon and covered the patch. Then bought this enamel button at the V&A shop in the museum.
Lots of people often comment how much they like it.
I do see there is an emerging trend to do similar repairs on well loved items as we attempt to move towards a more sustainable approach to keeping clothes for longer. Just seemed like common sense to me.
I think l read you have to wear a garment at least 35 times to make it sustainable but l thin that’s a low figure.
