Backlot Birdwatching

It rained all day, but we hardy noticed as we pulled into a parking space that abuts a pond in the middle of a business park in Beaverton. Just as we pulled out our binoculars for a very easy way to watch birds (from the comfort of a carseat), a Great Blue Heron swept across the water as though to welcome us. We didn't see much more from that spot, so we drove behind other businesses, to other parking spots, where we got out and saw: two juvenile Bald Eagles, an Egret, a few Coots, Buffleheads, Chickadees, Canada Geese, and others we couldn't ID.
Then, as if that weren't enough fun, we drove to Barb's daughter's nearby house where she described the location of an owl she and Barb had spotted a couple of years ago and who she'd seen again recently. (Have you ever heard an owl say whom?) We drove to the spot, looked and looked, and finally Dianne found herself looking right at it, staring right back at her. I saw some movement, but it was gone; backed into the dark of its hole. A Western Screech Owl.
After that we had a Thai lunch next door to a yarn shop. My post for the day is the parking lot there, because my bird shots are unremarkable at best. The Extra is the pond.
A good day, but that's still not all: this is all near the condo where my mother lived the last decade of her life; I've been in that neighborhood since she died, but seeing it all again today was so warm and gratifying.
