Tankerton Beach Huts

Another fine, sunny, cold day with that biting easterly wind off the sea. We made the best of the day given it’s likely to turn more cloudy over the next few days and there’s 2.5 tonnes of mulch to shift too. No excuses now as a new wheel for the barrow has been delivered meaning that I’m not shifting all that stuff using a Barrow with a flat tyre. (it’s had a flat ever since I rescued it from a skip, with permission, several years ago)

We walked from Seasalter to Tankerton through Whitstable harbour into the teeth of this stiff easterly breeze. The sea was grey and choppy despite the bright sunshine. A high wall facing the sun protected us from the wind while we had our lunch, keenly watched by a herring gull.

We were only just remarking that surely nobody would be cold water swimming today when three hardy souls divested themselves of their outer garments and walked into the choppy waters.

On our return we stopped off at the Continental Hotel, as has become customary, for a hot drink and a share of a scone. The expected sunset only materialised as we arrived home.
