Meeting of Minds
Wouldn’t you just love to be in this diverse, youthful crowd? Here’s PD, with a few introductory remarks, and a slide of some members of the Corinthians outside this very building in 1890. In those days it was the Granton Hotel - now it’s HMS Claverhouse and we were able to use the big meeting room thanks to our links with the Trinity Sea Cadets. Back in the day, y’see, many yacht clubs refused the participation of “professionals” such as people who made a living from sailing (fishermen, merchant seamen & navy types), preferring instead gentlemen amateurs. Which is probably why Granton has two boat clubs, like many other harbours. A source of bafflement these days, but we are where we are, etc.
Anyway, we heard all about the upcoming sailing season, plans for heavier sinkers, and finally we managed a chat with Willhem de Barr and heard all about the council spending cut shenanigans. Who to blame though, well, you take your pick from a range of villains depending on your political viewpoint. Handy, that.
