Not The Usual Sunday
Doing dry January helps when you need to be up at 6:45am on a Sunday morning to row. A slice of toast and a coffee before heading off to the boatyard. Cold, I thought I was cold until my feet went into the water, if I wasn’t awake then I soon was.
We had one two many to crew so with thirty minutes to go I swapped out, in those thirty minutes I got to see the sun fully appear and enjoy the tranquility of the early morning on the water but at the same time I got so cold my hands and feet hurt.
I’d volunteered to stay in for a second hours row and the exertion warmed me up in no time, it’s once I stopped exercising and moved the boat back up to the container that I got cold again.
A ‘Golden Arches’ coffee and breakfast muffin brought back the feeling to my extremities and I headed home.
Long hot shower, clean clothes and the Sunday roast started before settling with my next book, a real one, Michael Palin’s “Great Uncle Harry” a signed copy received as a Christmas gift.
