Jameswood

A while ago, SparseRunner saw a documentary that he shared with me and Katya, about a young couple buying a derelict house near Dunoon by mistake and deciding to renovate it. They made it, and not only  live there but also rent part of the house. It was interesting and heartwarming, so for my birthday, he decided to book three days there. It's not a part of Scotland I am familiar with and there is quite a lot to do but sadly the weather forecast is dreadful! 
We got to the house just as it was getting dark. It's comfortable and tasteful. The local community pub is closed in winter (and even in summer only open when 'they feel like it", according to a local) so we drove 10 minutes down the road to Dunoon and found a dog-friendly place which served lovely food.
