Top cat

We were through to the south of Glasgow today for lunch. And what a lunch. We got home just before 9!

Our friends have 2 gorgeous (and I speak as a dog lover) black cats. One of them regularly wanted outside: the other spent most of the day sat atop this construction either watching us or sleeping.

The food had a wonderful Middle Eastern vibe with, for starter aubergines with yoghurt and a rice/lentil/ onion dish which I think was called mujaddara. Whatever its name, it and the other starters were delicious. I barely had room for the main chicken course. But those who know me will be aware I made space.

Dessert was tarte tatin made in an air fryer ( as the oven had gone on the blink). Equally tasty.

What with that and birthday cake, coffee, then mint tea and lots of conversation the day flew by. Periodically we were entertained by their teenage son playing the piano (Chopin/Beethoven) as he took breaks from his prelim revision.

Great to catch up and despite the incoming storm the journey back was easy.

The only downside to the day was coping with the news that a good colleague and friend - known as “my twin” as we were of a similar age - had passed away suddenly a few days ago. Such unexpected and sad news on top of the recent news of another colleague’s passing. It emphasised the need to enjoy days like today and to keep in touch.
