Her name is Rio
We started off today with our first trip to Costco, which was almost overwhelming: a cathedral dedicated to bulk purchasing! To be honest, we didn't buy much but loads of people had their (abnormally large) trolleys stacked with stuff.
Late afternoon, we went to see 'The Holdovers' at The Everyman, which we really enjoyed. In fact, it was so good that I almost didn't enjoy the last ten minutes in case it finished badly. But it didn't.
(I read a nice little story on IMDb later on, which described how one scene had to be reshot, because the film is set in 1971 and one of the younger actors froze when confronted with an old 'dial' phone.)
In the gallery leading to The Everyman there's always a display of some sort, usually art for sale. My attention was caught by this outsized badge - maybe a foot across - that used the image from Duran Duran's 'Rio' album. I was bemused to see that the original artist Malcom Garrett didn't get a credit at all. (And I'm not sure that I see much evidence of any artistic endeavour.)
It was still quite early when we came out, so we went to the 'secret' bar next door, Side Street Studio, which we previously visited with Hannah and Yoss. This time the lighting was much more subdued and we decided to eat there.
The restaurant part is called Dainā, and the current residency is by two chaps called Jake and Samuel, serving bao buns and small plates. The food was excellent, and only £15 a head, and as we were right by the serving area, we got chatting to one of the chefs, who turned out to be a really nice guy.
Having pretty much written the place off on our first visit - not least because it was so bright - I'm glad we went back. And we'll definitely eat here again.
