Millions

It’s been a full day and I’m on the last bus home from Glasgow. Once I’ve done my blip I’m going to relax with a bit of Netflix:-)

My photo shows the sign at Empty Kitchens Full Hearts which is continuously updated to show how many meals have been prepared and sent out since the charity first opened its doors in Leith Theatre in April 2020, during the pandemic. This figure has just reached TWO MILLION! Cause for celebration but also cause for asking the Question - why is there still food poverty in Scotland?

I had an enjoyable packing shift with a great team of volunteers and then Luke and I travelled to Musselburgh as we had been sent on a mission (the details of which I shan’t reveal for no, but we enjoyed it, and I had a quick walk on the beach as well). Then it was another bus back to Portobello (Luke was on his bike) for a quick coffee and a chat with Lee, before I was off again - 2 more buses - to Glasgow.

I arrived at the Royal Conservatoire with minutes to spare, for a concert to mark Holocaust Memorial Day. The music (preformed by musicians who were astonishingly young) brought tears to my eyes. The organisers made the point that music transcends nationality, religion and other barriers to a peaceful existence. Candles were lit to remember those who were killed in the Holocaust and subsequent genocides.

After that, I had to hurry again to the bus station. I’ve had good use out of my Old Scot card today!
