Heydon
When driving in to Norwich I've often seen signs to the 'heritage village' of Heydon and wondered what it was like. Today we found out as we had a drive down for a wander around. It is one of the few remaining privately owned villages in the UK; owned by the family that own Heydon Hall and would originally have been built for the workers on the estate. Heydon Hall itself is still a privately owned estate but walkers are allowed across a lot of the land on a permissive basis. The house is still a private home so not open to visitors but looked magnificent in the sunshine this morning.
We had a walk from the village across the estate to where there is an exit onto the main road and then back again, a round trip of around two miles. We thought of stopping at the tea room in the village but it appeared to be 'reservation only', and fully booked.
This is the 'Big House'; back in the village I tried to get a shot of the very attractive tea rooms without a car in the shot, which entailed walking forward a little to avoid the parked cars on the left of me. In the time it took me to do that a bloke in a Range Rover drove up and parked right in front of the tea room. Ah well; another day.....
