Travelling
After I turned up for work and went through the normals things, I checked the updated rota to see who else was meant to be in. Nobody, but, also quite interestingly, I wasn't meant to be in either! I asked if I could work today, and have tomorrow off, to make sure that there was always someone in the office to answer the phone over the weekend. This was a yes, which also meant something fantastic - I could go home this evening, a whole 24 hours early!
Once someone from kitchen came in to take the phone at 3, I was home free - and rushed to pack my bags and check the bus and train times. Alas, I had just missed a bus, and the next one wasn't for ages. So, a lift to Llandudno Jn it was, kindly provided by Liz. She was on her way back from Anglsey, and by the time that she'd navigated the mountain roads home with all the tourists and weekend drivers, we had no time to spare. Driving as fast as possible (until we got stuck behind more slow people), we made it to the station with only 5 minutes to buy a ticket. Still, I made it. Here commenced 5 hours of train travel, with 3 changes.
Much as I love travelling by train, the huge dog's leg that you have to make to get from Betws to the south always feels very unproductive. 3 hours to get to Birmingham, which is halfway, on trains that stop at places that feel like the back of beyond. However, I had my newly fixed headphones, and I lost myself in the tunes of the Glastonbury to come, watching as the day turned to dusk, my tube of light gliding on through the countryside, foxes watching still from the fields of freshly cut hay.
When I arrived back in Bath, a load of my friends were heading out, so I dumped by bags at Freds, got a can of 'K' cider (horrid) and joined them. A good welcome.
