Powerbilt For A Photo, Aylesford
It was yet another grey, overcast day so really had to search for today's image. Luckily, inspiration came from looking through all the detritus in the garage. Stuck right at the back under mountains of "stuff" were these golf clubs in their very retro vermillion bag.
As a young teenager I remember using these at the nine hole golf course at the local paper milll where my Dad worked! It had a unique element to it in that four holes were one side of the motorway and five were the other other side, accessed by a footbridge. The mill (now long gone) was on a site that was so big that it had an East and West canteen and it's own bank!
Powerbilt, I've now found out, are a golf brand (since 2016 it's gone through a few different owners) that has a rich one hundred year history. One of the most famous users of the brand was the brilliantly named Fuzzy Zoeller who used their clubs, and their iconic orange bag, to win two majors, the 1979 Masters and the 1984 US Open.
There is one other thing that connects me to this set and the likes of Arnold Palmer, Ben Hogan, Greg Norman and Phil Mickelson and includes apparently only 5 - 7% of other golfers (not that I am any good at it and haven't even played pitch and putt in decades). I'll let you guess what it is!
