They must be so proud

A different route for me, just heading back to the office, but a missed a step on my satnav added at least 40 minutes to my journey.

This looks pleasant in the late morning sunshine, but the reality is it’s a squatter camp that goes on for many kilometers, with the lucky ones on the perimeter, compared to those in the middle that have way less than a meter between them and their neighbours.

My morning task was to spend time with a young man from such an environment who has experienced a total of three highjackings, and during one his wife was killed. His trauma is raw, but he has such a positive attitude towards his need to survive for the sake of his disabled daughter. It really made me think.

How do the politicians living in their ivory towers believe that they have changed the lives of everyday South African’s? Clearly they are looking through rose-tinted glasses.
