0804 to Leeds

"What type of stuff do you write?"
"Mainly poetry. I'm working on a novel at the moment though"
"Can you tell us the title?"
"Yeah, 'Six Six Sick'"

It's a small world.

Matthew here was hanging around outside the Art Gallery when I approached him. Asking him if he had time for a portrait he agreed straight away. When I said he was hanging around, I meant in the non-literal sense of course, he was sat having a cigarette, and luckily for me I got the opportunity to capture his bright socks. I say lucky, I did cut-off his shoes in the shot which I know is bad but it's sometimes hard to judge the frame exactly with only 95% coverage in the viewfinder - another lesson to learn however.

After the shoot, we got talking and Matt revealed that he was in Leeds meeting a friend from his literacy circle.

"What type of stuff do you write?" I asked. "Mainly poetry. I'm working on a novel at the moment though." "Can you tell us the title?" "Yeah, Six Six Sick"

I don't know about you but i think that's a genius title, and a book I'd fancy reading based on just that.

At some point later I saw one of my work colleagues walking over and it turned out he was the friend Matthew was referring to earlier!

Both of them have had work published in the same book and that is how they met. Here is a link to the book (A Complicated Way Of Being Ignored), in case you well-read people are interested :)
