Romancing The Stones

I make no apologies for purloining today's image from the telly - unbelievably our local team Maidstone United (The Stones) pulled off an incredible upset in the FA Cup by beating Ipswich Town, a team 98 places above them in the football pyramid, on their own ground. The romance and magic of the FA Cup is still alive and well! We are now through to the last 16 - the first sixth tier team to reach the Fifth Round since 1978 and only the 11th non-league club in the past 98 years to do so - which is utterly gobsmacking!!
We watched the game live on the BBC at home and were literally on the edge of our seats the whole time. We had to earn our luck as Ipswich had 38 attempts on goal, including hitting the woodwork three times, but we were resilient, brave, committed, with our goalkeeper Lucas Covolan 'having a blinder', and showed no little skill in scoring two wonderful goals through Lamar Reynolds and Sam Corne.
Our jubilant manager George Elokobi summed it up perfectly after the game: "This is magic. It's truly, truly amazing. A historic occasion for Maidstone and our community".
