Dead and Alive

The dead tree that was cut down yesterday now needed cutting into lengths ready for chopping into logs. My job was to remove the dead branches which were covered in fabulous lichen. The air is so clean here that leafy and hairy lichens survive well. It seemed a bit sad to be losing the living part of this dead tree, but there is plenty of lichen around and lots of other dead trees nearby.
