The Pensioner

What about that rugby then? We settled to watch it at 4:45pm and weren’t Scotland good. Blimey, they blew the Welsh away. I worried whether it might be the proverbial game of two half halves as we went in at the interval 20-0 up, but all fear disappeared when we scored another try and conversion to put the result beyond doubt. Oh yes. But then we went on a run of conceding 14 penalties in a row, with a couple of yellow cards thrown in. Strewth. Final result: 26-27. The s-i-l was down there with his pals - their ageing was skilfully realised graphically by the SK and pinged over to them.
Later, to a music event (“The Kitchen Concerts”) along the road where LGR becomes the more attractively named Trinity Crescent. Really nice people from our tribe: age, class, those sort of tendencies, who open their house regularly to passing minstrels. And this time it was Brigid Kaelin and Steve Cooley. Both fabulously talented - what they’re doing playing for us small crowd is a bit of a mystery. And I even got a bit of tuition on playing the saw. I can see party piece in the making..
