Düsseldorf: Day one
Up at about half-four, I think, to finish off the packing and get ready for the Street Cars* driver at half-five.
Manchester Airport was quieter than I expected, but I think that's because I kept thinking it was Monday. Anyway, we had an easy trip through security, and settled down with our books and coffees until the flight was called.
The flight itself was uneventful, and we were travelling by the Skyrail thing (see Extra) from the airport to the train station by just after eleven o'clock local.
In the afternoon, the Minx settled down to some work at our AirBnB while I went for a wander. It took me a little while to work up the courage to speak German, but in the end it was hunger that drove me into a restaurant - quick conversation in German about how they weren't actually serving food yet - and then on to a café that was.
Thus by the time the Minx and I ventured out after work I was happily using a bit of German here and there. I'm not sure that she really noticed but it was a relief to me!
We had a drink at a bar on the banks of the Rhine and then went on to Bar Cherie, which we loved last time we were here.
The café was packed but they found us a little table for two that we were very happy with :-)
*Excellent company
