For the family

A special day out

Up at the crack of dawn and ready for collection by R & S. We are heading off on a train trip on the Statesman for a tour along the route of the Settle to Carlisle railway and Cumbrian Fells. We saw it advertised and thought it would be an enjoyable birthday treat for R & me.

The train started out from Stoke on Trent and we joined at Uttoxeter at 8.45am, Chesterfield was the last pickup point before heading for the Ribblehead Viaduct, Appleby, Calisle and return. We got back at 8.50pm

We travelled First Class, non dining, and took our own picnic as we all have different dietary needs. There were lots of excellent snacks and complimentary drinks provided. The Pullman Dinning which was extremely expensive, was far too much for us to eat and would have been wasteful. Quite a lot of people did purchase it and we had a chance to see what was on offer, and was left, as we walked through the train at Appleby. The train stopped for passengers to get off for 15 minutes if they wished to take pictures and stretch their legs.

It was all so comfortable, the weather and scenery were excellent and we had great fun. R brought two games for us to play, 5 Second rule and UNO card game, they helped pass the time when the light began to fade.

R had asked me to teach her to crochet a Positive Potato. This was a complete failure, we have tried before and it’s not her thing. S thought that he would try and was a bit better, but quickly gave up. I cracked on and got one done, just have to make it’s arms to attach the label.

It was a great day. The additional pictures give a view of the events. They are not in the order that they were taken, not sure why!!!
