Precious
A precious thing, still in its original box. I think my Pa had this regimental brooch made for my Ma and some of the story behind it can be read here should you fancy. (At least I think it's what's termed a sweetheart brooch, rather than something he would have worn?) A, rather posh, memento from the days when he served in the 2nd King Edward's VII's Own Gurkhas (Sirmoor Rifles).
I was intrigued that the name of the jewellers could still be read and did a Google. Apparently they were Janson & Scowen, jewllers and dealers in precious stones. I had to google Mussorie too. This is what the local tourism board had to say about it
Mussoorie, the queen of hill stations, is famous for its scenic beauty, good social life and entertainment. The excellent climate makes it an attractive holiday resort. Thronged by holidayers, it vibrates with gaiety and merry making during the summer season.
Gaiety and merry making sounds delightful but I'm not sure about all that thronging. It also has a salubrious climate and does look pretty amazing. The puzzle is that its 1788km from where my parents lived in Darjeeling.
Yes, it's been a blooming awful wet day, thank goodness for distractions!
