secret garden

One for sorrow

One for sorrow,
Two for joy,
Three for a girl,
Four for a boy,
Five for silver,
Six for gold,
Seven for a secret never to be told
A strange thing to find washed up on the strand. Don't worry I saw three live ones shortly afterwards. We have two magpies in the tree outside our bedroom window and very chatty and acrobatic they are. Should you just see one specimen, to ward off the bad luck you should greet him: Good morning Mr Magpie, how's your wife and children and all will be well.

Well it hasn't rained today and I couldn't face another day on the computer so went out into the garden. First I was in the polytunnel and dug over about a quarter of it. The back is not what it was!  Needing to stretch other bits, I then went back to the teeny copse I'm clearing - thinning out the branches, pulling up the ivy and cutting back the brambles. It's looking so much better but other bits of the body were now challenged  and enough was enough.
I went for a quick yomp round the circuit. Very grey everywhere  but the sea full of cormorants and great northern divers, just doing their thing. I did wonder on the wing though.

One for sorrow - we saw the Unthanks at Stromness Folk Festival once, they were fantastic.
