Slindon Well
We have passed this well so.many times over the last few days that I was determined to Blip it before we left - which is today. In fact we stopped twice, as, for my earlier shot, the light was very flat but had brightened a little when we headed away.
It appears to be the memorial to the Salts, a well-known Stafford banking family, who also funded the construction of St. Chad's Church, Slindon, in 1894
The inscription over the arch reads:
'Erected by John Charles Salt for the use of the inhabitants of Slindon AD 1884'
Above, there is a carving of a bird with a motto beneath but as yet I have not deciphered the wording.
Once home, and with a larger screen and keyboard, I may expand on the text.
