Chez Nous

We have lived here on and off for nearly 20 years now. When we first came a large part of the house was a barn (grange) full of old wood, cattle troughs and with an earth floor. In its history there was an old lady who would go down to the well in the wood to get water and she is believed to have burnt the floor timbers to keep warm one winter. The tower did not exist in the original building but it looks like it always did. When we had it converted we felt it was appropriate to share it as much as we could and I have some work groups here. One of my stepdaughters, her husband and my step grandson arrive this evening. We said to the local farmer who was our neighbour that we feel we are just caretakers and would find a way to give the house back to the community eventually. He was adamant that we should not. "They'd argue over it for years!"
