ICELAND DAY 3

OMG my favourite day so far….the scenery was awesome and sadly the photos on a grid just don’t do it justice. (Think I will take over The Revs blip page!!!!)
Up early…waited far too long in the cold at 8am for our pickup. Lots of confusion…coaches came and went but none wanted us:)))).
Eventually (after a bus swap)we were on our tour by 9. It was still dark!!!
#sunrise at 10 was magnificent. The light on the snowy fields was stunning.
#we passed rivers flowing with lumps of ice. The thermal village springs that heats the water for 80% of Iceland. Their carbon footprint is at 98%!!!
#first stop..,SKÓGAFOSS waterfall…it was massive and so powerful. There were icicles about 5ft long!!!! As we were walking away a rainbow appeared across it…beautiful.
Then onto Vik (a small village , with a shopping mall..,for tourists)…a great lunch stop off.
#Then to Black sand beach….amazing rock formations…pillars of perfectly joined hexagonal. Nature at its best. It was actually quite warm in the sun.
#Then to the coldest place I’ve been!!! Sunny but soooo windy. We went to walk by a massive turquoise glacier. It was stunning but far too cold to walk for too long. My fingers were freezing and the snow was up to our ankles so tricky to walk. But wow what amazing sight.
#next stop SELJALANDSFOSS waterfall…equally as impressive but in the shade was far to chilly to admire for long. But again wow what a sight.
The getting on and off the coach, hut hats and gloves on then taking them off again and all the fresh air had exhausted us so we were glad to sleep the hour and a half back to Reykjavík.
We had fish and chips in the bistro opposite the hotel (@£22each was not cheap, but prices are high here!!) and then we fell into bed!!
weather you believe in creation or evolution nothing can deny the breathtaking nature here.
