St Swithun's church
Today I met up with my friends, J and C. We had hoped to visit the gardens at Mottisfont Abbey but as the weather forecast was for rain all day we changed plans, and met for lunch in the recently refurbished Cart and Horses pub at Kings Worthy. It was a good decision. Afterwards, the rain had briefly paused so C and I went for a short walk to nearby St Swithun's church, at Headbourne Worthy, to look at the snowdrops there. We were fortunate to bump into the rector who was locking up the church, but who willingly agreed to show us around the interior. I had visited the church quite recently but it was locked so I couldn't see the unique 11th century rood made of Quarr stone, or the fine wooden ceiling in my photo. The rector explained he had just been showing around an architect who will be redesigning the lighting to reveal the interior to better effect, as well as other necessary refurbishments. We were so pleased to have a personalised tour. See this entry for the exterior view and more detail on the church's history: St Swithun's Church
Later, I visited my mum who was on good form, and happily making greetings cards at the Art Club.
