Nae Snaw!
The forecast of snow didn’t materialise. Instead we had a bleak wet day with a constant fine drizzle which sapped the soul and crushed the spirit. There was an overwhelming desire to stay under the duvet and cancel the morning, but I did finally brave the day to go out for a coffee only to discover the Söderberg coffee machine was not working and an engineer was trying to fix it. There lay the dilemma- did I leave and return to a cold flat or did I stay the course in a warm café and hope the machine would get fixed sooner rather than later. I chose the latter and was awarded a free latte for my endurance.
I left after lunch to cross the Meadows in a polar east wind searing my face to get a lift to my book group meeting in a house with a log fire giving me a taste of what I am missing in the chimney less Dower House. To feel warm and see real flames heats my whole body in a way that no central heating radiators do. The book was discussed and the lemon drizzle cake, served with Greek Yoghurt, was proclaimed a winner.
It was still drizzling with the light waning when I got a lift home , arriving just in time to meet the TGIF neighbours before they disbanded. It was a day that ended on an upbeat note, thank goodness.
