Heading In A Fowl Direction

Today was yet another miserable day - gloomy and damp with intermittent heavy downpours. We really didn't feel like venturing very far and then I remembered we'd passed a wonderfully historic looking pub when we'd been forced to take a detour due to ongoing roadworks on our journey to Tenterden a couple of days ago, so why not try it out for lunch.
The Cock Inn is in the fabulously named village of Boughton Monchelsea and has been serving the local populace with fine food and drink since 1568. It really is a picture-book pub inside and out with whitewashed walls (which is where I captured this image of our fine feathered fowl friend with its accompanying directional arrow), exposed beams and inglenook fireplaces. We received a lovely warm welcome and each had a sausage and onion baguette with our pints. We'll definitely be back.
The rest of the day was spent fairly quietly but as evening approached the weather actually cleared so of course we had take another stroll down to The Chequers in the village to round off the day with our usual Friday night pint.
As we walked down to the village just in front of us were two gorgeous little sausage dog (dachshunds to give them their official name) puppies and their owners. They were both wearing tiny quilted jackets and were making quite slow progress as they were stopping to sniff something or yap at each other every few steps which was really making me laugh - although one of the owners did have to have a stern word with one of them when we were waiting to cross the road as it was barking at us at the top of its minuscule lungs.
A very entertaining perambulation to the pub was topped off nicely by the fact that we still got to The Chequers in time for happy hour and our pints were only £4 each. Happy days!
