Now And Then

Growing up on the Wirral in the 1960s, I was always aware of The Beatles. They were our “local” (Liverpool was only 10 miles away) band who had conquered the world. My father actually knew Brian Epstein but, sadly, had no interest in being introduced to the band!
I consider them the best band ever - just edging out Pink Floyd - and have collected just about everything they have released, firstly on vinyl and latterly on CD.
I’m a sucker for any sort of reissue - especially if it has “bonus” tracks - so when the “new” single was released last year, I had to buy the reissued Red and Blue albums just so I had a copy of it. Which led to me buying the Peter Jackson reworking of the Let It Be film which he released as Get Back. I did, at one point have a VHS of the original film but it’s long gone and no longer available. There was a slight problem, in that Get Back was only available as a Blu Ray and I didn’t have a player, but found one at a very reasonable price in a local Cash Generator shop, which resolved that particular issue!
And then I realised that although I’d watched the “Anthology” tv series when it first went out - and I’d bought the CDs a few years ago - I’d never bought the VHS or DVD of the project. A quick trawl on eBay found several for sale and I managed to get this one in really good condition for a very reasonable price.
I’m settling down now to a good binge watch of everything I’ve just acquired, though probably over a few days rather than in one 20 hour hit!
But there is one slight niggle that troubles my completist brain. I do not have DVDs of either Magical Mystery Tour or Yellow Submarine. Not because I can’t get hold of them, but because I just don’t think they’re very good. Well, the musical numbers are good, it’s just the films that aren’t much cop!
So, do I buy copies purely in order that I can complete my collection? I think that definitely comes under the heading of a first world problem!
