Cofete
Another great day walking the southern tip of Fuerteventura, hotter, slightly less windy and more challenging than yesterday. A short mini bus drive and then a gentle ascent with a final steep scramble to Degollada de Cofete and wonderful views out to the Cofete coast. The building in the blip was commissioned in 1946 by a German engineer and is associated with various popular legends, including that it was hideout for Nazis.
The area was used to recreate the parting of the Red Sea in Ridley Scott’s Exodus.
After lunch at the summit we descended the same way and walked back to Moro Jable, the fabulous beach there is the extra. A few folk had a swim and the rest of us enjoyed a drink in what felt like a proper working Canarian town.
