Then, There Were Two
After a run to the Post Office we visited the river hoping for some wildlife action. First stop was the Boat Landing where we watched a juvenile eagle land on the ice before attempting to catch a fish in a narrow patch of open water. Not this time, he flew down river with empty talons • Next stop Hallowell where we saw a pair of eagles in a tree across the river last week. With sparse open water it wasn’t surprising the mallards or mergansers weren’t around, although the ice was dazzling as it glistened and sparkled in the early afternoon sun • Like diamonds • We didn’t have to wait long before a mature eagle appeared overhead; it kept coming in lower and lower before finally perching in a tree not far from us! • MrsP with her binoculars and me with my camera, we oohed and aahed over the beauty of this gorgeous creature. About ten minutes later a second one unexpectedly flew in! We’re thinking it’s the same pair as last week. The one on the left is bigger, so likely the female • What a treat! • Peace & Love
