A windy Mangersta beach

It was a bright start to the day with a clear blue sky before the clouds slowly crept in.  We decided to stay fairly local and started by visiting the nearby Ardroil beach which has a wooden sculpture of one of the Viking Chess Set pieces that were found in a small stone chamber buried in a sand dune on Uig beach.  We then took a look at the beach but the weather had deteriorated and we decided to travel a bit further on.  We stopped at Mangersta beach and by then the sun had reappeared.  We walked down a track to the beach and were greeted with a magnificent sight of pounding white waves on a blue sea and pale sand.  We ended up spending a lot of time here taking shots of the waves and rocks, climbing up onto the adjacent hills and quickly returning to the car when it started to rain heavily.  After awhile the rain stopped and we went back down onto the beach and sand dune.  The sun reappeared while we took more images.

We later returned to the car and decided to go to visit the Calanais standing stones which were relatively close by.  As we approached them the sky had started to darken but I hadn’t realised it was a storm cloud.  The stones include a circle with a taller central stone and also a row of stones.  We took a few photos of the stones and were about to leave when it started to hail.  Unfortunately the hail was blowing directly into our faces and we very quickly hurried off the site and back to the car.  We got pretty wet but hopefully our jackets will dry by tomorrow.
