The Filmhouse

Just a short walk from our house is Newlyn Filmhouse. This area is known as Coombe after the river which flows (flowing very quickly today after all the rain last night and this morning) across the road from The Filmhouse. When the Newlyn fish trade was at its peak this was its centre and all the fish dealers had stores along this road, a few still have. A few years ago the fish stores of Robin Turner were converted into The Filmhouse.

It's a cosy cinema with two screens and a lovely wine bar and restaurant, . We went to see All of Us Strangers this afternoon and then went for a delicious meal afterwards.

This is a very strange, but beautiful, film about grief, loneliness and love. With some fantasy elements one can believe in, it is a film that one may ponder over, might wonder what one has seen and what it means, but in the end it is an affecting experience - not to be forgotten in a hurry.
