Alium Afterbloom
A gorgeous day today. The sun shone and the kids came tearing round the side of the house at 1pm yelling: "School's out for summer!"
I was sitting working in the garden, squinting in the sunshine, finishing off an essay for The Scottish Gallery's forthcoming Edinburgh Art Festival exhibition, which features a solo exhibition by the remarkable Mr Paul Reid. My head was full of Greek myths as a result. But I finished on deadline just as the kids appeared.
Roll on a summer of juggling and writing as the midnight oil burns.
I took this pic with my 'good' camera today as my son wanted to experiment with it. I haven't used it much since I got it 18 months ago because I always have my iPhone to hand.
I'm going to try to use it more though it's so easy to Blip with the iPhone.
The alums have lost their intense purple colour and all that is left is this incredible spherical structure.
It brought to mind the work of the late Abigail Mclellan, who was fascinated by natural forms in her artwork. I always think of her when I see aliums. They remind me that nothing is as it seems. What lies beneath is just as important.
