The beholder's eye

Great camouflage Mr Moth!

I think this attractive little moth is a Coronet, and I caught it in my moth trap last night.
When I run my trap I always get up at dawn to empty the trap, and investigate my catch. I know this sounds extreme, but if you leave the trap on during daylight you can catch a large number of wasps and this really doesn't appeal to me! Furthermore birds get attracted to the trap, and can jump in and consume your entire catch!
I select the moths I want to photograph and put them in little pots, and the rest I re-release straight away.
The selected moths are then placed in the fridge till later in the day when I get them out and photograph them while they are a bit chilly and less likely to fly away, then I let them go too.
Photographing them serves two purposes:-
To get some decent pictures of lovely moths and
To keep a record of what moths occur in my suburban garden.

I thought this moth was really beautiful, so I placed it on a piece of lichen covered wood ( I keep for such occasions) and to my amazement it nearly disappeared!!!
I sometimes wish I could be like this moth and 'disappear' into the background...guess it's a case of choosing which background I land on!
