The Ghost Of A High Street Marilyn
I really didn't want to get out of bed today but dragged myself outside for an early run and then made the mistake of going back to bed again. Not a great idea as when I got up again I felt really lethargic and, it must be said, rather grumpy.
My brother suggested a small trip out which was just the spur I needed to dig myself out of the moody trough which was thoroughly of my own making. By the time we'd got ourselves organised to go out the sun had made an appearance and I decided to take it as a good omen.
Once we'd parked the car we took a stroll along the very quiet high street and stopped off at Store 104 which sells books, ceramics, gifts and yarns but also happens to have its own coffee shop. We settled on a cappuccino and a chocolate brownie each, both of which were delicious, even if the coffee was a little lukewarm (being British of course we didn't mention it). Before we left we also had a perusal at their book selection and managed to leave with two more books to add to the pile which are still yet to be read - I do love having a large store of books to chose from.
We then continued our walk along the high street which is where I took my main image of this ghostly Marilyn Monroe (a currently redundant shop display piece) in the window of a closed down shop. As I was taking my shot a shopkeeper from the other side of the road wanted to see what I was taking a picture of and when I told her she said she constantly sees people peering through the shop window when they catch sight of Marilyn as they're passing. She said she is really tempted to dress up as a clown and creep up behind them to make them jump as they squint to catch a better look at Marilyn through the reflections in the glass!
After that funny but slightly strange interaction we continued our amble up one of the side streets, through the tranquil green space of The Vines and on to the castle gardens, which is were I took my extra looking out across the rooftops of the town.
Another thoroughly enjoyable micro trip!
