Raven’s Nest
My intention today was to do a whole load of things at home, but it was such a beautiful morning - blue skies and even a bit of warmth in the sun - that I decided to start things with a walk.
Approaching the viaduct I could hear the familiar croak of a raven. In the image it is sitting on top of the furthest gantry, a dot at this distance although its croak was amplified by the echo from the internal arches of the viaduct.
Where the two gantries connect to the viaduct, and just tucked behind, are two huge piles of twigs - raven’s nests. They are very early nesters, and this bird flew onto the furthest nest, perhaps to relieve its partner sitting on eggs. They must be completely indifferent to the noisy high speed trains whooshing past just above the nests en route from Edinburgh or Glasgow to London.
