Mother’s Day incoming
We’d planned another day out today, but the weather was so cold and miserable (though not actually raining) that we decided against it. Since we have a car available, S did a run to the tip in the morning with a lot of junk from the garage. We had a light lunch and then went into Yarm to do some shopping.
When we arrived in Yarm, there was a giant Dutch lorry double parked outside the florist. There are lots of posh shops in Yarm, and the florist is one of them. We didn’t go in, but headed straight for the obligatory Waterstones visit. We were restrained this time, conscious of the large TBR pile at home, and baggage limitations — just two “Buy one, get one half price”, and a new hardback for S.
Disappointingly, the fishmonger was closed, so we went to Sainsbury’s and then stopped at the farm shop on the way home. Dinner was steak, chips and Béarnaise sauce. Or it would have been, if the sauce hadn’t been a total disaster. Don’t try to do this on an electric hob without a double boiler, folks. I tried to rescue it with a second egg yolk, but we ended up with a runny custard like substance which split as it cooled. We ate it anyway.
In better culinary news, new house sitter Blandine reported that she gave Mystère a prawn yesterday evening. Good plan — he now considers her his best friend forever.
