Baker Street Cinema, Abergavenny
“Storytelling is the most powerful way to put ideas into the world today.”
Robert McAfee Brown
K2 is back in residence for a long weekend, there’s a family funeral on Monday. She’s catching up with friends first thing at the gym, then vegging out with us for the rest of the day. By lunchtime the rain has mostly cleared and the inactivity has got to us so we headed off to Abergavenny for a change of scenery and some fresh air – well, coffee and cake at Emmeline’s anyway. As we came out we noticed the cinema opposite; not been there before and today was ‘Wicked Little Letters’ with Olivia Colman, which we haven’t seen (and we haven’t been to a cinema for ... since before lockdown). An hour or so to kill before the screening so long enough for K2 to mooch around Book-ish and emerge with another half dozen books, while I wander around getting some photos. Both Skirrid and Blorenge have a beautiful dusting of snow, but I couldn’t find a good angle in the limited time (it was getting dark) to do them justice so I settled for a shot of the cinema itself. With all the effing and blinding from the word go ‘Wicked Little Letters’’ is probably not the sort of film to take a sensitive maiden aunt to see, but we had a great laugh (probably says a lot about me!). Phoned ahead to collect a Jalfrezi on the way home to save cooking tonight and chatted the night away.
