Quod oculus meus videt

At least the start of the walk up to the top that you can see in the distance was relatively flat.  Out with R for a testing walk up onto the Kinder Massif from Edale, along to Kinder Downfall and then back, descending via Jacob's Ladder before returning to the car.  It had the type of elevation and length that we hadn't done in some time, so was a good test of our fitness.

We also visited the location where R broke his ankle almost 7 years ago and I was able to show him the route the mountain rescue team took him down to the waiting ambulance.  It was even steeper than I remembered.

It was already very windy as we left the car near the railway station and it only got stronger as we reached the top of the hills.  It was surprisingly dry considering the wet month of February, but there were still plenty of peaty, boggy areas to avoid once we were 'up top'.  Kinder downfall was underwhelming and probably indicated that there had been little rain for a few days, with only a small amount of water falling into the valley below.

We ended up doing over 11 miles with 2,000 ft of ascent.  I'm certainly feeling it this evening  as we just don't do this sort of walking regularly enough anymore.
