Grace Under Pressure
This must be the 3rd or 4th time I’ve blipped about Grace Petrie as I try to see her every time she plays Liverpool https://www.blipfoto.com/entry/2574678528410782288. She’s undoubtedly one of the best songwriters and performers out there and always plays with passion and commitment. You’d never have known she was feeling slightly under par tonight if she hadn’t said so at the end.
Tonight was the first time I’ve seen her with her band and they were all phenomenal: Ben Moss (aka Folkie Ben) on fiddle and keyboards, Jasmine Kennedy on bass, Robin Gatt on lead guitar and Francesca Knowles on drums. Sadly, accordion player (and Fran Knowles duo partner) Amy Thatcher wasn’t available tonight but do check her and Fran out if you can https://youtu.be/90g1-RSzxYY
Grace’s new album, ‘Build Something Better’ was released yesterday and she’s hoping to get it into the UK album chart so if you’re thinking of buying it please do so before Thursday. I did my bit, obviously! The album was produced by folk-punk superstar Frank Turner and the songs are uniformly excellent.
A shout-out too to the fabulous support acts, poet (and Grace’s partner) Mollie Naylor https://www.mollynaylor.com and singer/songwriter Gabi Garbutt https://www.gabigarbutt.com
Here’s ’The House Always Wins’ from the new album https://youtu.be/tMrSL2zSAbM?si=bHVXmRv2iZiozd_1
