The heat-squidgable plastic arrived today and will suffice for bracing the gear cable as it passes over the brake lever clamp, but it doesn't look as elegant as something which remains in a squidgable state for slightly longer, like Sugru. The bar tape has been put on over the top of it but I might swap the order round; the newtape isn't quite as thin and manoeuvrable as the old stuff so might benefit from going on first for cushioning, then being restrained and protected by the several-years-in yet still more durable-feeling oldtape.
