Mother Hen and Squab

The eggs incubated by Mr. & Mrs.  Mourning Dove finally hatched! From my vantage point I have been unable to see the actual eggs -- just Mom or Dad sitting on them.  I was beginning to wonder if there really were any eggs underneath, until I saw the photo of the hatchlings taken by my neighbor  soozaday   The elusive eggs had already hatched!  Happily I got a peak of some of the babies today when mama moved off of them for a bit.  She continues to sit on the babies to keep them warm and protected.  The hatchlings become fledglings that will fly off in a couple of weeks.  Hopefully I will see them fly off before I fly off to Italy!
