Dante lectures
A full day of cultural events!!! The day began with Zen Meditation and a discussion of Impermanence inspired by the creation of a ceramic tea bowl. Then a few hours in the kitchen of the local jazz club - prepping potatoes and loading / unloading the dishwasher. Bike back home for a late lunch of Tuna Melt panino and to change into 'nice clothes' and groovy yet disintegrating Pikolinos boots (the right sole completely fell off by evening). I walked back down to Kuumbwa Jazz show. It was a packed house for Bobbie McFerrin & Circlesongs - everyone joined in singing some musical improve (ironically last night I went to Improve Theater show). "Don't Worry, Be Happy" is a favorite -- and I know all the lyrics! It was an early show, so my spousal unit picked me up afterwards and we immediately drove to Cabrillo College for a lecture hosted by the Dante Alighieri Society on "Roman Mosaics at the Piazza Amerina in Sicily". Alan Langdale presented an interesting lecture, as usual. Having taken a course in Roman mosaics and having visited the Roman Villa in Sicily several times (3 for me), M and I were a bit smug knowing more about the tessere used by the Romans...Oh - the blip is Dante Alighieri himself, he holds court at every Dante Society event - usually with the accordianist playing Italian tunes. Unfortunately, we didn't have music tonight.
