Bright and beautiful

It would seem that this year Spring fell on the morning of 16th March.  This afternoon, we're back to grey gloom and chilly temperatures. This morning, though, I spotted my first butterfly of the year, a bright yellow Brimstone (Gonepteryx rhamni) fluttering around spring flowers in the front garden. Once settled, it looks far less bright, and far less yellow, with its pale greenish underwings. But here it is!

Blipping earlier than usual as tonight I'm painting the town red. Well, maybe not quite; I'm going to the monthly line-dancing social in Grantham.
