Sad Day
I woke up to the news that the idol of my teenage years had died... Mr Steve Harley... :'(
I followed him every year in Scotland, mainly Glasgow in concert. I loved Steve Harley and Cockney Rebel... I was a 'Glam Rocker' I loved the 70's era... Steve was a lovely man, always engaging with his audience with stories in between songs... I first shook his hand in Castlemilk when he came for one of the Castlemilk Music Festivals... He was not so above himself that he wouldn't do a small community venue... I next engaged with him when he was telling us a story about a charity that he was sponsoring, and asking us to help out if we could, (fans would have done anything for Steve). Well it was back in 2010, Nov 22nd and my partner's birthday, well, I found myself holding up my hand in the crowd, we were 3 rows from the front, so I could be easily seen. he said "Somebody has got their hand up, yes, go on" lol... I just blurted out, "I will give you a tenner for your charity if you wish a happy birthday to my man", he laughed, and asked what his name was, I said, "Jim", he mimicked me and said "Jum, Jum", lol... I know he was slagging my accent. It was funny, his wife was from Glasgow, so I knew it was just for fun. He said "yes" and I jumped out of my seat and gave him the tenner. He then proceeded to 'sing' happy birthday to Jim, and got the audience to join in... :D What a night, what a memory. Thank you Steve for a life time of memories and music... Thank you and Rest in Peace lovely man... :'(
