After Fukushima
It is rare to go to a contemporary art exhibition and have the artist introduce the work in clear English without any of the usual art "bullshit' or "art speak".
But then Su Grierson is a mature artist whose work is firmly rooted in the landscape, (her family are organic farmers) and the curator of her exhibition "Intersections" at the Threshold Art space in Perth is Iliyana Nedkova , the young Bulgarian Creative Director of Horsecross Arts..
The result is series of thoughtful pieces using photography and video, which investigate some of the key issues of our time through visual language.
Su has recently returned from Fukushima in Japan, one of a small group of artists invited there on a ten-week residency.
The tsunami destroyed the nuclear station and the area is off bounds except Sue was able to go into the town in a special car armed with radioactive detectors.
She noted the traffic lights were still working though the place is a ghost town.
