The Biggy

A few days after the Magnolia stellata flowers the big Magnolia starts to come into bloom. I don’t know which variety it is as it was here when we bought this house twenty years ago.
This is the best view taken looking down from the guest bedroom window.

My extra shows the start of a very big job. RSPB staff begin the task of erecting an electric fence all the way round the Allen pool.  This large lagoon has several islands which are favoured by the Avocets who make their nests on the ground. The fence and ground matting is installed to deter foxes and other predators from swimming out to take the eggs and chicks.
The Avocets have arrived but are too far away for photographs.
